Do you ever feel like you’re constantly behind?
Behind at work. Behind at home. Behind on your to-do list. Behind in your quiet time with God.
If you’re an overwhelmed working Christian mom, those feelings can become overwhelming before you even realize it. The demands of work, motherhood, marriage, home, and faith often leave us believing that we’re failing simply because we can’t keep up with everything.
But what if God isn’t asking you to keep up?
In this article, we’ll discover what Scripture says about living faithfully in the middle of busy seasons, why your worth isn’t measured by your productivity, and how God invites you to experience His rest—even when life doesn’t slow down.

Why Do I Always Feel So Behind?
Halfway through the year, it’s easy to look back at the goals you set in January and feel discouraged.
Maybe the routines you hoped would stick have fallen apart. Perhaps you’re still trying to juggle work deadlines, school activities, meal planning, and everything else that comes with raising a family.
The problem isn’t that you’re lazy.
The problem is that you’ve begun measuring your faithfulness by your productivity.
We often believe that if we could just finish everything on our list, we’d finally feel at peace.
But peace has never been found at the bottom of a completed checklist.
God Meets You in the Middle
One of the beautiful truths of Scripture is that God doesn’t only work at the finish line.
Philippians 1:6 reminds us:
“…He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Notice that Paul doesn’t say God starts the work and leaves us to finish it ourselves.
He carries it on.
That means He’s present during the unfinished projects, the chaotic mornings, the difficult afternoons, and the evenings when you’re too exhausted to do one more thing.
God is just as present in the middle as He is at the destination.
Your Productivity Doesn’t Determine Your Worth
As working moms, it’s easy to confuse accomplishment with faithfulness.
We quietly believe our value is connected to:
- The emails we answered.
- The laundry we finished.
- The meals we cooked.
- The quiet time we completed.
- The schedule we perfectly managed.
Those things certainly matter.
But they were never designed to determine your identity.
Your worth has already been settled by Christ.
God isn’t asking you to prove yourself through constant productivity.
He’s inviting you to trust Him one faithful day at a time.
Rest Is an Act of Faith
Many of us treat rest like something we have to earn.
“Once I finish everything…then I’ll rest.”
The problem is there is always something else waiting.
Another email.
Another appointment.
Another load of laundry.
Another responsibility.
Biblical rest isn’t about having an empty calendar.
It’s about trusting that God is still at work even when you stop working.
Rest becomes an act of surrender that says:
“Lord, I don’t have to carry everything because You already are.”
One Practical Step This Week
The next time you find yourself sitting in the school pickup line, parked outside work, or standing in your kitchen feeling overwhelmed, pause before moving on to the next task.
Take one slow breath.
Then pray:
“God, You see the whole of this. I only have to carry today.”
You don’t need to solve tomorrow’s problems today.
You simply need to trust the One who already holds tomorrow.
Small moments of surrender often become the places where God gives us the greatest peace.
Key Bible Verses About Rest and Trusting God
When you’re feeling overwhelmed, spend time meditating on these passages of Scripture.
- Philippians 1:6 — God faithfully completes the work He begins in us.
- Matthew 11:28–30 — Jesus invites the weary to find rest in Him.
- Psalm 46:10 — “Be still, and know that I am God.”
- Isaiah 40:31 — Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
- Proverbs 3:5–6 — Trust in the Lord with all your heart.
Frequently Asked Questions
Absolutely. Balancing work, family, and your relationship with God can feel overwhelming at times. Feeling overwhelmed doesn’t mean you’re failing—it simply reminds you that you need God’s strength instead of relying solely on your own.
The Bible teaches that rest is a gift from God, not a reward we earn after accomplishing everything on our list. Jesus invites those who are weary to come to Him for true rest, trusting Him with the burdens we were never meant to carry alone.
Begin by changing the way you measure success. Instead of asking, “Did I get everything done?” ask, “Was I faithful with what God placed in front of me today?” Faithfulness, not perfection, is what God calls us to.

Final Encouragement
If you’ve been feeling like you’re always behind, I hope you’ll remember this:
God isn’t asking you to keep up with everyone else.
He isn’t measuring your worth by your productivity or expecting you to have everything figured out before He works in your life.
He’s already with you—in the middle of the busy mornings, the unfinished to-do lists, the late-night prayers, and the ordinary moments that often feel unseen.
You don’t have to carry tomorrow today.
The God who began His good work in you is faithfully carrying it forward, one grace-filled day at a time.
You are not behind.
You are deeply loved.
And God is still working.
